The Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) has signed a Professional Development Partnership with ITS Ireland, creating new opportunities for members of both organisations through shared events, technical seminars, webinars, professional registration guidance, discounted access to selected IHE training, and collaboration on industry reports and publications, as reported by the Institute of Highway Engineers.

Select ITS Ireland events will be formally recognised as contributing towards Continuing Professional Development for attendees, extending the CPD value of ITS Ireland's programme to members seeking accredited professional development within the highways and intelligent transport systems sector.

IHE Chief Executive Lyle Andrew said the partnership reflects the growing significance of transport technology within the profession. "Intelligent transport systems, connected vehicles, and transport technology represent a growing sector of our industry and indeed our membership base," he said. "As a licensed Professional Engineering Institute, we offer a route to gain Professional Registration as well as CPD opportunities, networking and training. We look forward to working closely with ITS Ireland to promote events, provide CPD accreditation and explore mutual benefits for both organisations."

David Laoide-Kemp, Chair of ITS Ireland, said the partnership strengthens the services available to members across both organisations. "There are clear crossovers between our two organisations, and we believe this partnership will strengthen the services and professional development opportunities available to our members," he said.

IHE President Darren Capes said the complementary expertise of both organisations positions the partnership to address shared industry challenges. "The use of new and emerging technologies in the systems we use to manage our road networks is a challenge we all face and one where the skills and experience present in ITS Ireland, and the support the IHE is able to provide to those working in the sector will complement each other really well," he said.

The partnership reflects both organisations' commitment to supporting training, knowledge sharing and the continued upskilling of professionals working across intelligent transport systems, highways and transportation as the sector navigates rapid technological change.

The agreement establishes a formal framework for collaboration that extends beyond event sharing into professional registration pathways, industry publications and the ongoing development of technical competencies across the two membership bases.
