Axis Education Group has made an investment in Studyclix, acquiring a stake in the Sligo-founded second-level edtech platform used by 224,000 students and 29,000 teachers across more than 700 Irish schools; the investment amount is not disclosed, and founders Luke Saunders and Keith Wright retain a stake and operational autonomy.

Studyclix was founded in 2009 in Sligo by former secondary school teacher Luke Saunders and software developer Keith Wright. It provides examination preparation resources, past papers, mock questions and Boost video tutorials aligned to the Irish second-level curriculum, generating revenue through direct subscriptions and school-wide licensing agreements.

Revenue and EBITDA are not publicly disclosed; the company had raised no external funding prior to this transaction. Axis Education Group is a privately held Irish education consortium majority-owned (80%) by Donagh Barry's Wardmay Holdings and 20% by CEO Chris Lauder's Stonemall Limited, comprising Independent College, International House Dublin, Dublin Academy of Education and Public Affairs Ireland. Axis reported combined revenue of €22.3 million in the 18-month period to June 2025. Studyclix becomes the group's fifth organisation.

The structural driver is a market consolidation dynamic in Irish private education anchored by the Leaving Certificate's continued dominance as a third-level gatekeeper. Studyclix has reached near-saturation in its core secondary school market, with 700 schools representing a significant share of the total second-level population, but growing further requires product and content investment capacity that a bootstrapped, founder-owned company with no external funding has managed on subscription revenue alone. Axis provides the balance sheet to fund that next phase without requiring external capital on dilutive terms.

For Axis, Studyclix is the group's first digital asset and extends reach into a population of 224,000 second-level students, more than ten times its current direct headcount. The conversion pathway from Studyclix's subscription base to Axis's grind school and college offerings is the most commercially significant integration opportunity: a student using Studyclix for Leaving Certificate preparation is precisely the demographic that Dublin Academy of Education and Independent College serve at the next educational stage.
