Mulroy College has opened a new state-of-the-art STEM lab and makerspace designed to fuel innovation and creativity among students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Supported by Mowi Ireland, the facility marks a major investment in future skills and regional education excellence.

The makerspace, housed in an existing classroom within the Donegal ETB school, is fitted with 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics kits, and coding stations—tools that will allow students to move seamlessly from concept to prototype. Deputy Principal David McHale and ICT Coordinator Maria Ryan led the project’s development.

At the official launch, Mowi Ireland’s Operations Director, Catherine McManus, said the company was proud to support a project that empowers young innovators. “Investing in education is one of the most powerful ways to support our communities,” she said, highlighting Mowi’s commitment to sustainable development and youth engagement.

Principal Fiona Temple praised Mowi’s ongoing partnership and said the facility would help students become “creators, inventors, and leaders in STEM.” The lab also supports Donegal ETB’s broader goal of preparing students for a rapidly evolving job market.

Dr Martin Gormley, Director of Schools at Donegal ETB, said the new lab “will inspire creativity, problem-solving, and innovation,” equipping young people with the skills needed for the future world of work.

Mulroy College will showcase the facility at its open night on Thursday, 6 November, featuring demonstrations and student project exhibits.
