Ministers unite on careers plan to future-proof workforce
Northern Ireland’s new Careers Action Plan 2025–2028 marks a bold joint move by the Economy and Education Ministers to rewire careers education for all ages. With a focus on inclusion and workforce resilience, the plan introduces careers education from primary school, expands SEND support, and launches a digital portal connecting education, skills, and the economy.
This is a government-led blueprint to embed career thinking early, ensure lifelong guidance, and link learning directly to labour market needs. The seven strategic outcomes prioritise a connected careers ecosystem, professional standards, and tailored support for every learner group. The emphasis on collaboration between national infrastructure and local delivery will demand active engagement from education institutions and training providers alike.
At its core, the plan aims to strengthen progression pathways and equip citizens for economic agility. Decision-makers must consider how their organisations will align with, contribute to, and benefit from this national vision for inclusive careers support.
