Local training initiatives helping Irish businesses upskill and stay competitive

Over 100,000 upskilling opportunities have been delivered to Irish businesses since 2018 through Skills to Advance, a national initiative by SOLAS. The programme provides flexible, highly subsidised training through Ireland’s network of Education and Training Boards (ETBs), helping companies improve processes, retain staff, and remain competitive.

New FET micro-qualifications — short, accredited programmes co-designed with industry — are equipping employees with in-demand skills in areas like digital business, sustainability, robotics and AI. With a tight labour market, SOLAS director Mary Lyons says companies are increasingly turning to upskilling as the most effective way to meet evolving talent demands.
