US technology company Google has launched Gemini for Science, an AI research platform designed to support scientific discovery across literature review, hypothesis generation, computational research and life sciences workflows, as reported by Edtech Innovation Hub.

The platform includes a Science Skills bundle accessible through Google Antigravity, Google's agentic research environment, with access opening gradually through Google Labs where users can register interest.

Google said it is collaborating with more than 100 academic and research institutions to validate the new systems, including Stanford University School of Medicine, Imperial College London and The Francis Crick Institute. Research papers on two core components, ERA and Co-Scientist, have been published in Nature.

James Manyika, Senior Vice President at Google, said agentic science tools represent a particularly significant area of development. "One area I'm particularly excited about is agentic science and the tools we're building to accelerate scientific progress and discovery by empowering researchers across every scientific discipline," he said.

Enterprise-grade versions of the scientific research tools are already in private preview with named organisations including BASF, which is using AlphaEvolve to optimise supply chains, and Klarna, which is applying AlphaEvolve to machine learning models. Daiichi Sankyo, Bayer Crop Science and the US National Labs through the US Department of Energy's Genesis Mission are using Co-Scientist.

Google's trusted tester community spans PhD students, industry researchers and Nobel laureates. The company has also created pilots with academic conferences including ICML, STOC and NeurIPS for agentic peer review and scientific validation tools including Paper Assistant Tool and ScholarPeer.

The three Google Labs experiments sit alongside Science Skills in Google Antigravity and the published Nature research as part of the broader Gemini for Science rollout.
